The Foundation of Fitness
A good diet is the basis for a life of fitness. You need to make sure that you have the energy to pull out the exercise balls, the stamina to do that yoga and the right nutrients to recover from each day. Here are a few general dietary tips that will help you on your quest of self-improvement.
Smaller meals make everything better. If you have the time, I suggest eating 6 small meals evenly spaced throughout the day rather than the three many people do and the two that too many people eat. Breakfast and dinner are not acceptable. Your body will be in survival mode and start retaining fat while not giving up its reserves when you want to tap into them. This is why so many people will be working out and feel like they need to crash halfway through the session. If you start getting dizzy while working with medicine balls you’re likely to actually crash. Right into the floor.
Much in the same vein, don’t EVER fast or go on a crash diet. I am a huge fan of oats as a source of fiber and protein but I have heard of many people eating only oats to try and lose weight. There is a lot more that your body needs than oats can provide. You’ll be hurting yourself with a diet like that. Worse yet is people who fast and binge. You are ruining yourself. Ideally, you should consult a nutritionist and build a diet that is designed around your activity level and exercise type. Many people don’t realize it but there is a big difference in the dietary needs of someone that runs a ¼ mile each day and someone that does low impact yoga with swiss balls once a week. They both need the same nutrients but they will need entirely different levels of each. Your final goal also changes what kind of diet you need. If you are trying to build muscle you are going to need more protein than someone looking for muscle definition and toning. Obviously, the type of exercise you will do changes as well but that’s a subject for another time. I hope that you take this advice to heart. It’s easy to counteract your hard work or even hurt yourself with the wrong dietary plans. Your body needs the right fuel to keep it running. Think of it like a car. If you don’t treat it right the engine will seize.
